Alignment

I have mentioned alignment in earlier posts, however it certainly a subject that deserves its own post. Let's align on it ;)
Yes, a product manager works with a team of many disciples and constantly aligns them on the product goals and features, yes the PM should spread a swath of alignment as he passes through his meetings and sends his product requirements to go fourth and flourish. That's not always enough though, because all that mostly relates to Product and Engineering teams.
Yes, of course alignment with marketing teams is key, we hold hands as we take the first few steps on any new path, and alignment with Sales teams to make sure our magnificent product features go fourth and fill the land with user engagement. Yes, but one more.
Sometimes the PM needs to make sure that management is aligned. Aligned with the unit's goals, aligned with major customer activities, aligned with the how, why and when of Product and Engineering/Operation units. It is easy to take that last one for granted, and I strongly recommend not to - be pro-active, make sure your direct manager communicates upwards what needs to be communicated, and that the message is heard.
If that last bit does not make sense to you, count your blessings :)
